I went to the Auckland Zoo this weekend, which was if nothing else, a great chance for me to play with my cool camera.
I got my camera several months ago, but I’ve never really had a chance to play with it properly. It’s Canon EOS 400D. It’s digital SLR, and it takes amazing photos without me necessarily needing to know anything about what it’s doing
I would highly recommend it as a great camera.
I’ve included some of my better shots of the day after the jump for anyone who would like to see my amateur skill. It was interesting for me to ponder as I did so however, about how the UN Global Environment Outlook report has been released in the last week, and it paints a pretty bleak outlook for the future.

I was watching an interview with Rick Treitman, who is the CEO of Virtual Ubiquity and the creator of BuzzWord. In the middle of the interview he casually mentions that you can get a BuzzWord beta account by heading over to http://www.getbuzzword.com/. I’ve been dying to get a chance to play with BuzzWord for ages, so this is great news.!

Called the Lip Balm Prank, the video below involves a prank where a model is asked to do a blind kiss-test of a new brand of lip balm. When she is blind folded however, the models are switched…

It’s been quite a weekend for PC games.
Hot on the heals of Portal coming out, I just got word that the Unreal Tournament 3 playable demo is now available for download.
It’s only the a beta demo, but by all accounts, this game is going to be pretty excellent. I can’t wait to get my hands on this one.
Once you do have the game, you can find details of some game servers available for the demo here.
Portal really is one of the best games released in a while, but unfortunately, after having the game for only 24 hours, I’ve already played it through from start to finish… twice!
The good news is that there is a Portal SDK, which should enable people to build and share their own levels. So what we need now is wait for the first fan-built level pack to come out. Then I’ll be able to play again.
I’d love to look into build some levels myself too, so if anyone has any idea how to even start doing something like that, please let me know in the comments. Thanks!
Ps. The ending credits of Portal are great!
The Half-Life 2 mini game Portal came out today. This is an amazing puzzle game where you can place portals, and thus teleport instantly from place to place. This game is from the same people who created Narbacular Drop (free), and I think it is one of the most fantastic concepts for a game I have ever seen!
If you haven’t done so already, check out the trailer video below, and then head on over and grab the game. You can download it through Valve’s Steam client, and it costs $19.95 USD.
This game is seriously fun!

I know, I’m way behind the times on this one, and if you’re reading this page then you probably already knew that already any way
I’ve been offered an opportunity to speak at a small prizing giving ceremony at my old university (I left there 11 months ago), and while I was wondering what one would say on such an occasion, I came across this article.
According to the survey, Software Engineering was crowned the top job based on strong growth prospects, average pay and potential for creativity. Second place went to college professors, instructors and administrators.
It turns out, at the end of the day
People were really looking for more flexibility and less stress
Go figure
My artistic skills are back once again with a much improved comic strip over at Geoffrey’s Blog. This one’s called “If Tony Still Lived at Home”.
Head over and CHECK IT OUT!
Anyone who has ever tried to load a FlashPaper document within a Flex application knows that it’s not as simple as one would hope. I was struggling to make my application appear correctly for several days before I came across the solution, and I hope by posting it here that more people will be able to find it too.

My brother Geoff has a blog over at www.therathole.co.nr where he posts the comic strips he draws in his spare time. I did a guest comic strip for him the other day when I playing around with Photoshop, and he posted it this morning.
Head over and check it out! Try not to laugh too much at my poor Photoshop skills though -_-
This one was just so I could practice. I’ll do a better one for him soon if he lets me back
