The best things about being a Flex developer is…
The best thing about being a Flex developer is the community! Even though I’m half a world away from most of the other Flex developers, I love the community of like-minded people I can connect to through the net. It looks like I’m not the only person who thinks this either.
The main reason I started blogging was because I wanted to contribute to this community of like minded people. There are incalculable benefits to be gained if we all took everything we’ve learnt developing Flex, and made it available for the rest of the community.
Long story short, everyone should start blogging! Come on, you know you want to. The best reasons to start blogging that I can think of are:
- You can get a great, powerful and free blog from WordPress. You really should try WordPress, you’ll love it.
- There is an amazing thing called the Macromedia XML News Aggregator (MXNA). This makes it easy for other developers to find your blog, and it boosts your Google ranking heaps too.
- If you’re using WordPress then the built in SEO features will make your site a Google rank machine.
- You have content to share! You’re a developer right? So you spend all day solving problems. Other people have to solve those problems too, and like you, they wish someone had taken the time to blog the solution.
- We all benefit. Related to the last point, but an active community will help increase the popularity of Flex, and that is good news for everybody.
So go for it! I’ll even do a post in the next little while about how to optimize your site for search engines and push your Google rank even higher.
