Here are a couple of snaps I took this afternoon while hanging out with some of my SmallWorlds Friends. Mysterio’s is a great place to come and hang out because there’s always plenty of magic handy
If I had to pick one thing I love most about SmallWorlds, I’d have to say the variety. I love how different and colorful everyone looks. Having loads of cool spells on hand helps too
I came across a couple of Microsoft Word tips today which I found really handy. Hopefully you will too
Change the Color Scheme
You can easily change the default blue color of Office 2007 to either silver of black. To do this, click on the ‘Office Button’ (the pearl in the top left) and then click on ‘Word Options’ in the bottom right of the menu that opens. I changed my Word to black which looks better with the default Windows Vista Theme.
Hide the Ribbon
You can hide the ribbon bar by double clicking on the current selected tab at the top. Once the ribbon is hidden, a single click on the menu bar will open the ribbon bar temporarily, or double clicking again will show it permanently again. I find this to be a great way to save on vertical screen real estate when working on my laptop which has a smaller screen.
Do you have any tips which are better than mine? Let’s hear it in the comments.
Came to this blog searching for a specific issue, which might be nothing for you guys, but have been hitting head for almost two days now.
I have a DataGrid of numbers. All I want to do is that when a mouse rolls over a specific cell, that cell gets highlighted with say, green color, not the whole row.
I have not gotten past this, but as a next step would like to increase the font of the text in that cell as well.. so to emphasize it.
I will appreciate any help or pointers in the right direction.

I responded with a brief explanation at the time, but this afternoon I decided to see if I could whip up an example application showing how this could be done. I managed to come up with some code that is both quite simple and reusable. You can check out my demo application here.
Last week, Robert Scoble interviewed SmallWorlds co-founder Mitch Olson and discussed some of the revolutionary features which have been built into SmallWorlds. The interview covers a very good overview of SmallWorlds as a platform and covers features such as:
I always marvel at all the ways new content is being created for the web. A few days ago my boss twittered a picture with me in it. I never would have known if CJ hadn’t told me

I notice that most online games (most large websites also) carry age restrictions around who can play or participate in them. Let’s not be naive here, the web is a dangerous place, and there are lots of things that younger people need protecting from. Recently however, I have been thinking about this strategy a lot, and I am starting to wonder whether blanket age restrictions really are the right way to approach this issue. (more…)
Ever since this blog was first created (over two years ago) I have been a customer of Open Host. In that time I have found them to be a responsive, reliable and affordable service, and I have never had any reason to complain. Changing providers has never crossed my mind.
Today I received an email from the asking if I could give them a plug. You don’t know if you don’t ask right? I decided, sure, why not? They’ve been a great host for me. There’s no reason why I can’t recommend them to other bloggers out there. (more…)
After a long and drawn out saga I finally have my Flickr account back. I didn’t think losing access to my account had bothered me that much, but when I was finally able to log into my account again I was completely elated In celebration I have uploaded a bunch of photos taken while Sarah and I were on honey moon, and I am looking forward to uploading a lot more in future! Click on any of the images below to see a larger version, or you can see my full Flickr photostream here.
I finally got around to trying the WordPress blogging application for the iPhone. I am using it to write this post, and I have to say that I’m really impressed. If you check out their website however you’ll see that version 1.2 of this app will be coming out soon, and that looks even better (more…)
